The Dance Therapy
Association of Australia is the
professional body for practitioners,
students, researchers and others
interested in dance therapy in
Australia.
The DTAA: promotes the growth
and development of the dance therapy
profession; establishes and maintains
standards for training, research
and professional practice in Australia;
provides a means of communication
and networking for dance thrapists,
other health professionals, employers
and clients; provides information
and resources for dance therapy
practitioners, students and the
wider community; and offers Professional
Membership to applicants who meet
the training criteria, and associate
or student membership to those
interested in dance therapy.
The DTAA is a Member Association
of the Psychotherapy and Counselling
Federation of Australia (PACFA).
PACFA - Psychotherapy
and Counselling Federation of Australia
The Psychotherapy
& Counselling Federation of
Australia, Inc. is an "umbrella"
association comprising affiliated
professional associations that
represent various modalities within
the disciplines of Psychotherapy
and Counselling in the Australian
community. PACFA establishes recognised
standards of training, develops
professional accountability and
public protection, and regulates
therapeutic practice.
The 42 PACFA
Member Associations (MAs) have
all been audited by the PACFA
Management Committee and have
met the minimum requirements in
three different and distinct areas:
structure, training, and ethics.
Associations joining PACFA have
agreed to: adopt a minimum set
of training standards for the
professional practice of Psychotherapy
and Counselling and review them
regularly; ensure their codes
of ethics reflect the Ethical
Guidelines document; and establish
complaints and discipline procedures.
Founded in 1966,
the American Dance Therapy Association
works to establish and maintain
high standards of professional
education and competence in the
field of dance/movement therapy.
The ADTA stimulates communication
among dance/movement therapists
and members of allied professions
through publication of the ADTA
Newsletter, the American Journal
of Dance Therapy, monographs,
bibliographies, and conference
proceedings. The ADTA holds an
annual conference and supports
formation of regional groups,
conferences, seminars, workshops
and meetings throughout the year.
ADMTUK – The Association
for Dance Movement Therapy UK
ADMTUK aims
to develop communication amongst
dance movement therapists and
promote its use throughout the
United Kingdom in accordance with
the highest professional standards.
The Association works with the
other art therapy professions
in the UK (music, drama, art)
and is active in the continuing
development of a European Dance
Movement Therapy network and supports
international sharing.
The Association’s
objectives are: supporting and
encouraging research, students,
practitioners and promotes Dance
Movement Therapy in the education,
social and health services and
the community at large; establishing
and maintaining a register of
professional members; representing
membership in negotiations with
relevant bodies concerning issues
of employment; supporting the
development of training courses
which provide professional competence
in the theory and practice of
Dance Movement Therapy; facilitating
the exchange of information, knowledge
and thought in Dance Movement
Therapy in liaison with other
professionals; protecting and
promoting the interests of its
members; and encouraging and supporting
research and publications in Dance
Movement Therapy.
Body, Movement &
Dance in Psychotherapy An International
Journal for Theory, Research and Practice
Body,
Movement and Dance in Psychotherapy
is an international, peer-reviewed
journal exploring the relationship
between body and mind and
focusing on the significance
of the body and movement
in the therapeutic setting.
It is the only scholarly
journal wholly dedicated
to the growing fields of
body (somatic) psychotherapy
and dance movement therapy.
The body is increasingly
being recognized as a vehicle
for expression, insight
and change. The journal
encourages broad and in-depth
discussion of issues relating
to research activities,
theory, clinical practice,
professional development
and personal reflections.
