Workshop 1:   Maximum 22 places

What is DMT?  Moving Towards Change and Transformation: an Introduction to the Foundation Principles of The Ancient Healing Art of Dance

Tuesday 27th August, 2019   6.00pm – 10.00pm   Venue: Rosina Auditorium, The Abbotsford Convent

The roots and fundamental treatment successes in the practice of Dance Movement Therapy are derived from Dance in its earliest practices. In this workshop we will explore certain elements which create the dance aesthetic. Participants will have the opportunity to discover the evolution of personal insight and self empowerment facilitated by these elements. In exploring these elements, a model of Dance Movement Therapy will emerge. How one may apply these principles in your own therapeutic practices as well as in one’s own personal growth path will be presented.  Open to all participants.

Objectives:

  • Learn how to become a DM Therapist;
  • Learn which elements in a DM Model contribute to personality development and change;
  • Explore how certain DM elements translate into processes other psychotherapists may apply in psychodynamic work with clients;
  • Understand how DM therapy may be both an adjunctive treatment modality as well as a primary  therapy.

Workshop 2:   Maximum 26 places

Dance Movement Therapy in the Twenty-first Century: The embodied Reality

3 days of workshops: focusing upon the healing/wholing potential as DMTherapists move from the practice of adjunctive to primary therapy.

This 3-days of workshops is for Dance Movement Therapists who have completed a training programme and who have 12 months experience working in the field.

Day One: Thursday 29th August, 2019   1.00pm – 8.30pm

Venue:  The Oratory, The Abbotsford Convent

Day Two: Friday 30th August, 2019 10.30am – 6.00pm

Venue: The Oratory, The Abbotsford Convent

Day Three: Saturday 31st August, 2019 10.30am – 6.00pm

Venue: The Oratory, The Abbotsford Convent

During these 3 days of workshops participants will have the opportunity to work in three major areas:

  1. continuing personal growth and transformation through DMT experiences;
  2. further development of clinical skills;
  3. transitioning from adjunctive to primary therapists; focusing on how the skills that we have as Dance Movement Therapists allow us to lead our communities today as ‘change agents’.

Some of the topics to be covered that we will be examining include:

  • Healing from trauma and loss;
  • Examining what Leventhal has defined as the three gateway elements for resilience;
  • Examining two key perceptual paradigms that help us organize both the expressive and functional movement in DMT: the Quantum paradigm and the Newtonian paradigm;
  • Sharpening our skills as we hold and witness within the therapeutic relationship;
  • Clarifying the importance of boundaries as therapist, teacher, client, student;
  • And various other elements that contribute to the wholistic energy model of DMT (such as transitioning from authentic movement into an unfolding reality);
  • There will be time for participants to bring in case examples and queries from their specific populations working within institutions.

This workshop will take place over three days.

The first and second day of the workshop may be taken as an individual one day workshop, or a separate two day workshop.

The third day of the workshop can only be attended if either the first or second day (or both) of the workshop have been attended.
